The Trumpet Herald

Giving the trumpet a certain sound

June 2015

This issue of the Trumpet Herald is the fourth and final part of Spiritual Formation within Adventism.

As we bring to a conclusion our brief overview of how the spiritual formation movement has entered into Adventism, we want to make some connections. In Selected Messages, v. 1, pp. 201-203 it is revealed that the "Living Temple contains the alpha of these theories"

We need not the mysticism that is in this book.

All through the book are passages of Scripture. These scriptures are brought in in such a way that error is made to appear as truth. Erroneous theories are presented in so pleasing a way that unless care is taken, many will be misled." "I knew that the omega would follow in a little while; and I trembled for our people.

Spiritual formation, also known as the Emerging Church movement, is mystical in its nature, fulfilling the characteristics of the omega of apostasy.

Spiritual Formation is Spiritualism

Encyclopedia Britannica - "Spiritualism, in religion, a movement based on the belief that departed souls can interact with the living. Spiritualists sought to make contact with the dead, usually through the assistance of a medium, a person believed to have the ability to contact spirits directly. Some mediums worked while in a trancelike state, and some claimed to be the catalyst for various paranormal physical phenomena (including the materializing or moving of objects) through which the spirits announced their presence."

Back in the 1960's there was a song written called Tomorrow Never Knows, which says: "Turn off your mind, relax and float down stream, it is not dying. Lay down all thoughts, surrender to the void ... Yet you may see the meaning of within." The author, John Lennon, openly admitted that he adapted the lyrics from the Tibetan Book of the Dead. The Tibetan Book of the Dead is a book of instructions for Buddhists on the experiences that the consciousness has after death, as well as how to communicate with the dead. This eastern mysticism is the very definition of spiritualism.

Adventists should have the biblical understanding that the dead are dead. When a person attempts to communicate with the dead, we understand biblically that the communication actually taking place is with the spirits of devils. This is why Scripture forbids any form of this.

In his book Hunger, the Adventist author Dr. Jon Dybdahl recommends a book titled Celebration of Discipline. On page 31 of this recommended book it's written: "Having centered down, spend the remaining moments in complete silence. Do not ask for anything. Allow the Lord to commune with you, to love you. If impressions and directions come, fine. If not, fine." In other words, turn off your mind, lay down your thoughts and surrender to the void.

The Emerging Church movement, or whatever name those in Adventism choose to give it, is the Christian equivalence to the mystical beliefs and instructions as found in the Buddhist's Tibetan Book of the Dead.

"There are many who shrink with horror from the thought of consulting spirit mediums, but who are attracted by more pleasing forms of spiritism, such as the Emmanuel movement [a psychologically-based approach to religious healing introduced in 1906]. Still others are led astray by the teachings of Christian Science, and by the mysticism of theosophy and other Oriental religions" (Evangelism, page 606). Emphasis added. Buddhism is an Oriental religion.

Spiritualism is a Deception from Satan

And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles [spiritualism], which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty (Revelation 16:13, 14).

Spiritualism is one of the Threefold Union

Through the two great errors, the immortality of the soul and Sunday sacredness, Satan will bring the people under his deceptions. While the former lays the foundation of spiritualism, the latter creates a bond of sympathy with Rome. The Protestants of the United States will be foremost in stretching their hands across the gulf to grasp the hand of spiritualism; they will reach over the abyss to clasp hands with the Roman power; and under the influence of this threefold union, this country will follow in the steps of Rome in trampling on the rights of conscience." (Great Controversy, p. 588). Emphasis added. text

What theology does the Emerging Church movement support? A theology of Satan.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil (Genesis 3:4, 5).

Has Protestantism taken hold of this belief? Absolutely! Where will this deception of spiritualism lead? As just quoted from The Great Controversy, spiritualism creates sympathy with Rome, ultimately leading to an acceptance of Rome's mark of ecclesiastical authority - Sunday legislation.

We can know by Revelation 12:17 that Satan will do all he can to persecute God's commandment-keeping church. History reveals that even though he will attack from without, he has been more successful attacking from within. God has warned us this is how it would be in the last days: "We have far more to fear from within than from without. The hindrances to strength and success are far greater from the church itself than from the world" (Selected Messages, p. 122). The Emerging Church movement is an attack by Satan within God's church. It is the omega of apostasy.

Does this mean God's remnant church will fall and become a part of Babylon? How does God deal with this situation?

My brother, if you are teaching that the Seventh-day Adventist Church is Babylon, you are wrong, God has not given you any such message to bear. Satan will use every mind to which he can attain access, inspiring men to originate false theories or go off on some wrong tangent, that he may create a false excitement, and thus divert souls from the true issue for this time (Testimonies to Ministers, p. 59).

The church may appear as about to fall, but it does not fall. It remains, while the sinners in Zion will be sifted out - the chaff separated from the precious wheat" (Selected Messages, v. 2, p. 380).

God will shake His church, to cleanse His church. Even though there are some who will "jump ship" believing God's church has fallen, it's the sinners that God shakes out. Those that are deceiving and/or are deceived into this spiritualistic movement and continue therein will be shaken out. This is the process of purification that must take place so "that he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish" (Ephesians 5:27).

As Satan is attacking from within, he continues to attack from without.

As the wickedness of the wicked increases, opposition will be brought to bear upon you closer and closer. Satan has many batteries prepared to open upon the people of God. You will have troubles and difficulties to meet, such as you never experienced before, and there will seem to be no way of escape. But if you have learned to trust in God, you know that he will not leave you; you have the assurance that he will hear your prayers, for he has been to you all that he has promised (Historical Sketches of the Foreign Missions of the Seventh-Day Adventists, pp. 197, 198).

There is a close relationship between the three separate entities of the threefold union. Apostate Protestants believe in spiritualism. Those that worship in a way that recognizes the papacy's authority are worshipping Satan. See Rev. 13:4. These three will unite to bring forth Sunday legislation, which is an attack on God's law. Anyone standing with God's truths as their foundation will be persecuted - all others will be shaken out. Sunday is a papal institution. Apostate Protestantism will be the catalyst used in the United States in support of this ungodly union, which brings us to the upcoming papal visit to the "Protestant" United States.

As mentioned in the February 2015 edition of the Trumpet Herald, this visit is like a "dry run" of Revelation chapter 13. After meeting with President Obama at the White House on Sept. 23 of this year, the Pope will address the United States Congress (apostate Protestantism) on Sept. 24. The next day, Sept. 25, the Pope will address the remainder of the world at the U.N. The Pope will then travel to Philadelphia to address the World Meeting of Families on Sept. 26 and 27. Keep in mind that the Catholic institution of Sunday sacredness is the basis of the family unit.

(These dates were gleaned from the website (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops), as of May 8, 2015.)

As we witness the upcoming adoration of the pope by this Protestant nation, this papal visit will become a strong influence of setting the conversational agenda for the upcoming presidential debates and platforms.

God's word has given warning of the impending danger; let this be unheeded, and the Protestant world will learn what the purposes of Rome really are, only when it is too late to escape the snare. She is silently growing into power. Her doctrines are exerting their influence in legislative halls, in the churches, and in the hearts of men. She is piling up her lofty and massive structures in the secret recesses of which her former persecutions will be repeated. Stealthily and unsuspectedly she is strengthening her forces to further her own ends when the time shall come for her to strike. All that she desires is vantage ground, and this is already being given her. We shall soon see and shall feel what the purpose of the Roman element is. Whoever shall believe and obey the word of God will thereby incur reproach and persecution." (The Great Controversy, p. 581).
